Job Description:
Salary commensurate with experience/Days: 224 Primary Purpose:
Assist the school principal in overall administration of
instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinate
assigned student activities and services. Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Master’s degree Texas principal or other
appropriate Texas certificate Advanced Education Leadership (AEL)
certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or
Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) Certified Texas Teacher
Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser, preferred Special
Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of campus operations Working knowledge
of curriculum and instruction Thorough understanding of school
operations Ability to leverage curriculum, technology, and spaces
for learning and instruction Ability to support implementation of
district goals Ability to coordinate campus support operations
Ability to interpret policy, procedures and data Ability to
evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness Ability
to manage budget and personnel Ability to implement policy and
procedures Ability to interpret data Excellent organizational,
communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Experience: Three years of experience as a classroom teacher Two
years as a campus administrator Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management 1. Encourage and support development of
innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such
efforts when appropriate. Participate in program evaluation
measures and make suggestions for improvement where needed. 2.
Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to
instructional strategies and classroom management. 3. Foster
collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their
active involvement in decision-making process. 4. Assist the
principal with all aspects of the teaching and learning process to
improve the instructional program including: delivery and
assessment of the master schedule; selection of highly qualified
personnel; respond to teacher, parent, and student concerns
regarding grading/reporting practices; appraisals of teachers
involving instructional observations and feedback; data analysis;
management of speakers and field trips. 5. Help build instructional
and leadership capacity in all staff. 6. Participate in programs,
committees, and interventions designed to enhance student learning.
7. Promote a collaborative culture focused on student learning. 8.
Promote active participation, leadership, and collaboration with
campus educators in professional learning communities.
School/Organizational Climate and Improvement 9. Take a leadership
role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure
attainment of the school’s mission. 10. Participate in development
of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community
members. 11. Help principal develop, maintain, and use information
systems to maintain records and track progress on campus
performance objectives and academic excellence indicators. 12.
Promote a positive, caring climate for learning. 13. Deal
sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural
backgrounds. 14. Provide for two-way communication with principal,
staff, students, parents, and community. 15. Foster collegiality
and team building among staff members. Encourage their active
involvement in decision-making process. 16. Ensure the effective
and quick resolution of conflicts. 17. Participate in development
of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community
members. 18. Assist in the development, maintenance, and use of
information systems and records necessary to track progress on
campus performance objectives addressing Academic Excellence
indicators. Student Management 19. May act as campus behavioral
coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations. 20. Work
with faculty and students to develop a student discipline
management system that results in positive student behavior and
enhances the school climate. 21. Ensure that school rules are
uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and
equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student
handbook. 22. Conduct conferences about student and school issues
with parents, students, and teachers. 23. Ensure that students are
adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management 24. Supervise
campus operations in principal’s absence. 25. Take a leadership
role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities
including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments,
and extracurricular activity schedules. 26. Supervise reporting and
monitoring of student attendance and work with staff to identify
and address issues. 27. Work with department heads and faculty to
compile annual budget requests based on documented program needs.
28. Requisition and oversee the management of supplies, technology,
textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in
accordance with district procedures. 29. Coordinate operational
support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria
to best meet campus needs. 30. Comply with district policies, state
and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools. Personnel
Management 31. Observe employee performance, record observations,
and conduct evaluation conferences as needed for designated teacher
appraisal system. 32. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting,
and orienting new staff. School/Community Relations 33. Articulate
the school’s mission to community and solicit its support in
realizing the mission. 34. Demonstrate awareness of
school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs
using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community
and parent involvement. 35. Communicate with parents individually
and collectively on issues related to student success. Professional
Growth and Development 36. Participate in professional development
to improve skills related to job assignment. 37. Demonstrate
professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role
model for all campus staff. 38. Promote collaboration and
professional learning. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and
evaluate the work of professional staff as assigned by the school
principal. Direct the work of teachers, custodians,
paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
