Job Description Job Description We are seeking an EXPERIENCED
PEDIATRIC NURSE to join our team! This is a demanding position that
requires phone triage and leadership experience. Good communication
skills are a must. You will assist the nurse manager in daily tasks
and be in a leadership role while working with our other phone
triage nurses. Must be able to type 40 wpm. You will provide
healthcare services, under the supervision of a physician. Job
duties include but not limited to: Telephone triage, medical forms,
performing procedures, parent education, prior authorizations,
referrals, rooming patients, and assisting the physician as needed.
Must be able to travel to the Dallas, Frisco, and Mesquite offices
as needed. LVN's and RN's welcome. SUMMARY: This position is
primarily responsible for providing general nursing care to
patients, providing information to parents/caretakers, and
performing procedures and duties as directed by the physician.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and
responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned. Telephone Triage: Interviews parents/caretakers, records
information into the patient chart, responds appropriately as
directed in Forest Lane Pediatrics phone triage protocol (Barton
Schmitt Pediatric Protocol), obtains physician instructions/orders
as needed, and sends prescriptions to the pharmacy as approved by
the physicians. Listens to, documents, and assists physicians with
after-hours phone messages. Routes patients to the emergency
departments and assists with hospital admissions as directed by the
physician. Works on assigned “buckets” throughout the day. Checks
and responds to nurse and forms emails throughout the day. Provides
parent education for vaccines, procedures, and home care as
approved by the physician. Completes FMLA’s, physical, school,
daycare, and miscellaneous forms. Generates barcodes for documents.
Obtains physician signatures. Writes detailed letters as directed
by the physician to schools, daycares, parent’s work, insurance
companies, etc. Works closely with the medical assistants to ensure
all physician orders are carried out. Examples: Speech,
Occupational, & Physical Therapy, Upper GI’s, Ultrasounds, Home
Phototherapy, or any procedure that must be scheduled. Assists
front office staff and physicians with referrals to specialist and
provides pertinent records. Assists physicians in the rooms as
needed. Assists medical assistants as needed to maintain a smooth
and efficient flow to the physicians work day. Example: Rooming
patients, helping with procedures, and obtaining vital signs.
Performs invasive procedures as directed by the physicians.
Examples: Urine catheterizations, burn debriding, injections, etc.
Operates equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests, prepares
requisitions for testing at other laboratories, calls for specimen
pick-ups, and informs parents/caretakers of results. Prints orders
(x-rays, EKG’s, etc.) and gives patients/parents directions to
proper facility. Obtains any necessary prior authorizations needed
for above procedures. Obtains any necessary prior authorizations
needed for prescription medications. Maintain/manage relationships
with parents, caretakers, and other healthcare facilities. Performs
closing duties, including but not limited to: Clearing all possible
“ buckets”, ensuring all orders and phone triage calls have been
completed, responded to all emails in a timely manner, confirming
all STAT labs and procedures have been received and completed, and
lock up triplicate prescription cabinet. Reports directly to the
Nursing Supervisor or Physician. COMPETENCIES: Problem Solving –
